Final Year Project? More like Fitting Your Prayer.
What's with the title you might ask? Well it's a common term that student's at my place have to go through during their final years of the degree program. It's like a "passing of an age" kind of thing, a fine line between student's care free life and the uncompromising reality of work to pay of for the loan for paying the university. It's called FYP for short, and what we do is basicly is pay our university nearly 6 grand to get a rm500 rebate for buying items for a project of our choice and seek advice by a advisor, also of our choice.
This project is further divide into two parts, first part which just compromise research stuff, doing the project or just do plain nothing. Second part is where all the work, blood and sweat poured into the project surfaces. Now the problem is this, there is a significant gap of 3-4 months in between due to industrial training programme or ITP which is another compulsory requirement with NO GRADES. Basiclly the only way to fail is you actually quit the job or got fired which ever comes first. As some might like it or hate the training work, getting back to putting the thinking cap again is like trying to light up a wet candle. It can be lighted again but with much much patience, unless they kept the candle dry through that training period and finish their project.
Now I'm in the former group, already erased the patiences and alertness to stay put in class to just listen and listen and listen. Often do I day dream and shock by how much I miss on the extra notes the lecturer displayed from time to time. Not to mention the lack of a "Grip Iron " boss to order you to act on your more important task, I instead choose to indulge in dramas like Heroes, Prison Break and the occasional odd anime thrown in the mix. Even meeting with the advisor is more like a forceful requirement rather than a excited day to show what had been archieved.
Right now, I'm just picking up the stones and pebbles of my project in my computer, slowing building back it's foundation as to just finishing off that last of my student's project. I might get an A, or I might score flatly but surely not a fail. Not there is anything more important then a social life and canceling every Yam Cha session there, but it's still a blister on my skin that keeps breaking.
This is not a funny post I agree, but it's none the less something for me to ponder or focus on during this final semester. Of course who can resist a group of jokers from all corners of Malaysia from Johor till the tip of Kuching to have a great laugh or a great time.
PS to self, get that damn project done so no more sleepless nights and gaining a pound of fat :(.
